Ghost made his debut on wax in late 2003 with the “Ghost Stories” EP. The musical journey since that release has seen Ghost navigate 3 albums (2 solo), a mix CD, numerous vinyl EP’s and singles, remix credits for the likes of The Heavy, Nicole Wills & The Soul Investigators, Coldcut, Bonobo, Kashmere, Jehst to name a few. Ghost has received critical acclaim and support from the likes of Zane Lowe, Mr. Scruff, Gilles Peterson, Sarah Love and a host of international DJ’s across the globe. Ghost music has been played across Radio 1, BBC 6 music, 1xtra, RDU and KZSU just to name a few. Not to mention support from magazines and blogs from New Zealand, to Tokyo, San Francisco and all the way back to London. Oh, and did we mention the license deals for his albums in Japan? Ghost was runner up in the Glastonbury Unsigned Talent contest in 2007 and had a track featured on the Glastonbury compilation CD for that year. Since 2007 Ghost has been touring and DJing all over the UK and Europe (including stints at Glastonbury, Hip Hop Kemp, The Big Chill, Bestival and The Jazz Cafe). Following the release of his “Freedom of Thought” album in 2009 Ghost decided to have a change of scenery in 2009, travelling to South America and Thailand before deciding NZ was the place to set up the new studio.
Now enjoying life in NZ, Ghost felt it was time to bring his brand of music, wonky electronic Hip Hop beats to the people of NZ; we hope you enjoy the ride!
‘Postcards from the Edge’ is the title track and first piece of music to be lifted from Ghost’s 3rd solo studio album. The overall feel of “Postcards From the Edge” and this track is keeping with Ghost’s penchant for thoughtful, melodic music, but this is a step in a slightly different direction. Gone are the samples, in comes an orchestra of lush synths and strings, off kilter beats, sub basslines and anything else Ghost could squeeze into the mix. ‘Postcards from the Edge’ is a brooding swirling array of sounds, thoughts and emotions that gives you a taster of what’s to come on the album. A producer always willing to challenge himself musically, this marks the next stage of progression in his career. The album “Postcards from the Edge” is set to be released through Musicforheads and Border Music in August 2010. Ghost showcases a love of electronic music with nods to the dubstep, wonky future beats, electronic and of course Hip Hop scenes.
